energy

Capital- I have already spoken to people at different solar companies and can
use them as connections.
Valuable: Very valuable
as it could be my way into the solar business
Rare: I would say this resource is pretty rare
because not many people are willing to reach out
Inimitable: Anyone can contact these companies
but it takes time and effort to do so
Non-substitutable:
Nothing to substitute that is important as social capital

Uniqueness
of product- Many people don’t consider solar energy when thinking about how
they’re going to fuel their house
Valuable: Definitely valuable because it is a legitimate
option with less consequences
Rare: It is rare because the majority of people don’t use
solar energy
Inimitable: Hard to copy by others because of fossil fuels
Non-substitutable: Fossil fuels, nuclear energy, wind energy

Capital- I am outgoing, resourceful, motivated, and want to make a difference
for our environment
Valuable: Very valuable because I know I can do the job
better than most
Rare: Not too rare but everyone doesn’t have these qualities
Inimitable: Possibly inimitable but won’t be easy to match
my drive to succeed
Non-substitutable: These qualities will be vital and not
many other resources are as important

Location-
I live in Florida which is one of the best places to start a solar business
Valuable: Definitely valuable because Florida is better than
most states for solar power
Rare: Rare because not many states get as much sunlight as
Florida
Inimitable: A few states compare but most states can’t imitate
the weather in Florida
Non-substitutable: No substitution as Florida is an ideal
place to start a solar business

Social
Capital- I have family friends that were in the solar business
Valuable: Extremely valuable because it is a direct
connection
Rare: Very rare because most people aren’t lucky enough to
have a contact
Inimitable: Can’t copy as no one else is connected to these
people the same way I am
Non-substitutable: Can’t substitute with anything else

Support
of public- Many people want to help save the environment and this is one way to
do it
Valuable: I see this as a very valuable resource
Rare: Very rare as most company’s main goal is to not help the
environment like this business
Inimitable: Extremely hard to copy as this has potential for
a lot of people to support
Non-substitutable: Difficult to substitute as nothing else
will generate this much attention

Knowledge-
I have done plenty of research throughout the semester on solar energy and the
elements of a solar business
Valuable: Very valuable because I already know a lot of
information about solar energy
Rare: There may be people who are knowledgeable about the
topic but I doubt a lot of people have been keeping up with it as much as I
have
Inimitable: Not too hard to copy because anyone can look up
information
Non-substitutable: Difficult to substitute because this
information that I have researched is very important

Publicity-
This program has potential to create a lot of positive publicity
Valuable: Very valuable because more publicity creates more
potential business
Rare: Positive publicity is hard to come by these days
Inimitable: Difficult to copy as not many businesses create
a lot of positive publicity
Non-substitutable: Can’t substitute anything that is as
beneficial as this
10.Social Capital- Being a
student at UF has its advantages by providing plenty of connections
Valuable: I see this as valuable because the more connections
the better
Rare: Pretty rare as most colleges don’t provide as many
connections
Inimitable: Can’t copy unless I am competing with other UF
students
Non-substitutable: There are probably a few universities
that provide as many or more connections to UF, but the majority of them are
not substitutable.
Top
resource: I would say that my top resource is environmentally friendly because
it is the main reason people would be interested in my business. People’s
interest in helping the environment is a driving force and is the reason it
outweighs my other resources. My venture being environmentally friendly is
valuable, hard to imitate, non-substitutable, and rare to an extent. I see it
as my top resource and as the most important element of my business that would
interest potential customers.

I thought it was interesting that you that being recently was the best resources just because other people would not think so but I think building connections are just as important.
Hi James! This was a great post some of ours are very similar. What really was interesting was that you chose publicity because I never realized that is also an important life since our lives turned to social media and everyone's information is basically all out there. Your post is very informative and gives a lot of information with all the description.
