1.    My name is James Conner. After talking to my family members and people close to me, I am seen as a person who is kind, organized, focused, and determined. Along with those characteristics, I believe I am a hard-working, competitive, and social person. My aspirations for my business is that more people become aware of the impact of fossil fuels on our environment and make a change because of it. I feel strongly about this opportunity and it has caused me to change parts of my lifestyle in order to better the environment. This has become part of my life and I’m hoping my idea has the same impact on other people.
2.     I am offering a solar energy program that replaces fossil fuels as our main source of generating energy. Once this program is purchased, included in the package is full-installation of the solar energy system and regular monitoring of the program. This program would be incredibly beneficial to the environment and is an important unmet need for a lot of people. Many people are aware of the environmental problems that result from fossil fuels and want to make a difference. The majority of these people don’t know how to do that and it results in no change occurring. This solar energy program would give these people an opportunity to change their ways in order to help save the environment that we all live in.
3.    This business idea would apply to the customers that care about the environment and want to make a difference and the ones that believe fossil fuels are harmful to the environment and an alternative is needed. Solar energy is cheaper than generating energy from fossil fuels, which means customers would be saving money and benefiting the environment. The majority of the people in the United States would have the opportunity to buy this solar energy program, (excluding the people that live in areas that the weather doesn’t support it) and once it is implemented and positive impacts on the environment occur because of it, I believe it could be a global program.
4.    Customers will pay money for my product/service because there are many people like me that feel very strongly about helping save the environment and this program allows them the chance to make a real difference. Fossil fuels harm to our environment is becoming more of a problem and a cleaner alternative is needed. We are all a part of the environment which makes this opportunity incredibly valuable to anyone who wants to help clean up the environment.
5.    A lot of people want to help save the environment but don’t feel like they can make a difference by themselves. This program will unite people all over the country who feel similarly about helping the environment and will make them feel like they are truly making a difference. This idea will originally apply to the people who feel the same way as me about the current state of the environment, but it has the potential to reach many more people who aren’t aware of the impact of fossil fuels/solar energy. This business concept is centered around a problem that affects everyone, which is what sets it apart and why it has the potential to be very successful.
6.    I believe these elements work very well together. I am from a small town and have never lived anywhere but Florida, so I don’t have many connections as of right now. This is a very large idea that would need strong connections, so I would need to make those in order to get my program running. Also, even once the solar energy program is implemented it will probably take some time for people to see the positive impact it has on the environment. The majority of people will probably be hesitant about making the switch over immediately so I need to be aware of that. In conclusion, no idea is perfect and I believe I can overcome these obstacles because of all the benefits that outweigh them. I feel extremely strong about fossil fuels negative impact which makes me a perfect candidate to offer a solar energy program in order to help clean up the environment.

Feedback Memo:

The three main points I focused on based off of my feedback on the original Idea Napkin was to be more specific about what made me unique as a person, give more details about the solar energy program, and narrow my market. I was more specific about what makes me unique by summarizing what my peers thought my most important characteristics were. I described how the solar energy program would work once the purchase process was completed. Finally, I narrowed my market by explaining the reason why everyone wouldn’t have the opportunity to purchase this solar energy program.

Customer Avatar:
My customer is a 19-year-old lady who lives in a rural area in Florida. She is a very kind, unselfish, thoughtful, and motivated person. She enjoys spending time with family, listening to music, and exploring nature. She lives a simple type of life and hangs out mostly with her family and a few close friends. She is more on the quiet side, but has a great sense of humor and expresses it with the people she’s closest too. She drives a tan Jeep CJ which she uses mostly to drive to school, work, and to explore the land she has around her house. She is extremely smart but doesn’t fully apply herself to school other than the few topics she is interested in (science and history). She is ready to finish school and figure out what her purpose in life is. She hopes she can travel the world one day because she loves learning about different cultures. She isn’t a huge fan of watching TV as she would rather do something active instead, but her favorite shows are Duck Dynasty and The Office. She doesn’t have children yet but looks forward to being a mother. Family is very important to her because of how close she is with her own family, which is why she can’t wait to create her own.
What do you have in common with the Customer Avatar?
I was also born in Florida where I had the opportunity to grow up with plenty of woods around me that I could explore. I’m very close with my family and would rather have a few close friends than a lot of friends that I just associate with. I too look forward to graduating and making a career for myself. Traveling is something I have always wanted to do and I’m hoping that my career allows me to do that.
Do you think that is a coincidence?
I don’t think it is a coincidence that my customer and I have so much in common because the reason I created my product/service is because I feel so strongly about the environmental problems happening in the world. A person with a similar background is likely to feel the same way.

Reflection of Feedback:

I received mostly positive reviews on my original elevator pitch. They said that I had a great vision and a really good pitch. The feedback that I received about improving my pitch was that I should show more energy and excitement and I should talk louder. These are both easy fixes and things I plan on refining on my second pitch.

What did you change, based on the feedback?

I tried to improve my energy level by making sure I was upbeat and excited during the entire pitch. I kept my volume at a high level in order for my audience to hear my pitch clearly. Also, I added a few lines at the end of my pitch in order to form a connection to my customers. I did this so they were aware of the importance of this idea and to show them how they can make a difference in the world through my product.
