3A

A time in my life where I was exposed to entrepreneurship was when my mom’s friend was blinded in an accident and decided to invent a program for the blind to use on the computer. It was a speech software package called JAWS and it became the best-known synthetic speech software package on the market. He ended up becoming a millionaire because of this business idea. Unlike many in his situation who would have seen being blind as a huge disadvantage, this man used his situation to create a unique program for others who deal with similar issues.

I enrolled in this class because it was a credit I needed for the Sports Management Program, but I’ve quickly realized from the lectures and structure of the class that I will learn a lot of relevant and important information that I can use to put myself in the best position to succeed in life.  I hope to gain a new perspective on entrepreneurship and all the elements that go into it. After the first few lectures I realized this class will be very beneficial to me and I can tell I will be more willing to obtain the information I learn than I previously thought when I signed up. I haven’t been exposed to entrepreneurship very much so far in my life, so I’m looking forward to learning about it throughout the duration of this course.

  1. Hi James! I'm in the same boat. I'm taking this class for credit and haven't been exposed to entrepreneurship very much either. Here's to learning new things! Your mom's friend's entrepreneurship story is pretty amazing. Not many people would think to turn such a misfortune into a viable business plan. I'm looking forward to reading your posts this semester!

  2. Hi James! That story is awesome! Very inspiring. I thinks its really cool how he not only came up with a novel idea, but created something that will help people who are not as fortunate as we are. I also think that there is plenty of space for you to come up with your own awesome idea, sports management could definitely lead you in the direction of some cool people and ideas since the sports sector is constantly being reviewed and refined. Cant wait to read more of your posts!

  3. Hey James! Your story is truly amazing with your mom's friend. He was able to over come his battle and be able to create a brand that can now help others, which is remarkable. For your individual story, I agree I am here for the class along with the teacher I enjoy his lectures so far and he is funny as well. Can't wait to read more!
