2A - Bug List

4. People talking to me when I have headphones in
Why: They need to talk to me and feel like it is urgent enough to make me stop listening to my music for me to hear it
5. My sister leaving the bathroom a mess
Why: She doesn't take in consideration that other people use that bathroom and have to deal with the mess she made
6. Not being able to find a parking spot on campus
Why: There is a lot more students than there is parking spots on campus.
7. Ball-hogging in pick-up basketball at Southwest Rec. Center
Why: Certain players think they're better than others and only care about getting shots for themselves
8. Getting assigned to boring jobs at the O'Connell center
Why: The O'Connell Center has more workers then are needed so the majority of the time certain workers aren't asked to do much during their shift
9. Waiting on your food in the drive-thru at a restaurant and when it finally comes out you got the wrong food
Why: Communication problem between me and the worker taking my order or the cooks in the kitchen
10. Getting my last name spelled wrong
Why: "Connor" is more well known so people assume that is how it is spelled instead of using an "E"
11. People talking or using their phone inside a movie theater

16. When people try to throw something away and miss the trashcan and then don't pick it up
Why: They are too lazy to pick it up and believe someone else will do it for them
17: When people read your message and don't respond
Why: They don't feel like a response is needed or don't want to continue the conversation
18. Seeing people not live up to their full potential
Why: Difference in mindset between that person and me, they are satisfied with below-average or average results while I am not
19. When people come over or leave and don't say "hello","goodbye", or "thank you" to the people living there
Why: People were raised differently and don't have the same views on manners
20. When people are rude to customer service workers
Why: Some people believe customer service workers are lower-level in society so they don't treat them with the same respect they would as someone with a higher position job.

I originally thought this assignment would be relatively easy, but after coming up with a few bugs that I had off the top of my head it was difficult coming up with 20.  I feel like if I spent a day noticing bugs and writing them down as they occur it would have made this assignment a lot easier than me trying to think of all 20 at one time.  The "Why" component of this assignment was very interesting and important because it makes you consider the reason behind the bug instead of just realizing that it bugs you. Understanding what bugs you and why it bugs you leads you to find out the root of the problem and how to fix it, which is a very important skill to have as an entrepreneur and in life in general.

  1. Nice post! I have a lot of the same issues you talked about in this post. The point about people not greeting you/ your family when coming into a room is something I felt I experienced a lot as a foreign national. Coming into a culture that youre not accustomed to seems to breed awkward situations like this so I definitely feel you on that point. But also I think some people are just rude. Anyways great post! Cant wait to see what else you have to say about entrepreneurship!

  2. This is an amazing post James. I can relate to your number 19. People are raised differently and have different ways of up bringing. Overall your twenty bugs are very explanatory and I have some in common with you as well. I agree that I thought it was going to be a fairly easy assignment but it took some thought for it.

  3. I enjoyed your post! Question 11 is so true when people talk in the movies on their phone I find it to be rude and disrespectful. Along with what you said about the customer service and how to treat people, I personally was in that field of work and I understand went through every type of person and personality. I like how you took a step back and truly asked yourself WHY is this important.
